Fatal Big Rig Crash blocks I-580 Eden Canyon Road
A pair of 18 wheeler rigs collided Thursday on Interstate 580 blocking traffic for 10 hours or more on the westbound side. California Highway Patrol reported a black sedan had struck one of the trucks which impaired the steering of the vehicle. The first tractor trailer had come to a stop mid freeway, and was then struck by the second rig.
The trucks involved were severely damaged; cabs and trailers mangled and broken. The driver of the second truck died as a result of the collision. Traffic was blocked for an extended period as one of the trucks had to be unloaded before being removed from the scene.
