Two die in Multiple Vehicle Crash on I-5 near Bakersfield

The California Highway patrol reports say several vehicles crashed early Saturday morning in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the Highway 99 split north of Bakersfield. Multiple injuries have been reported including two fatalities at the scene. Although unconfirmed, the crash is said to have involved nearly 30 vehicles.
Preliminary reports show the accident involved a tractor trailer, an SUV and at least two other vehicles that came to a stop in the median. Investigations continue regarding the cause of the crash; dense fog and limited visibility may have contributed to the incident. I-5 remained closed for most of the morning and into the afternoon, reopening after 5 pm on Saturday.
