It has been a record year for auto recalls of models five years and older, according to an analysis by the New York Times. There were approximately 700 vehicle recalls in 2014 involving over 60 million cars (one out of five vehicles now on the road).

Problems for which the autos were recalled range in their degree of severity, but several examples of vehicular flaws have led to death and serious injuries in recent years. For instance, problems with the G.M. ignition switch on some models produced between 2003 and 2011 have claimed the lives of at least 42 people.

Various options are available to those who have been injured or who have lost loved ones in a vehicle that was later recalled for a serious flaw. Auto recall lawyers can help victims of auto accidents involving defective cars gain compensation much more effectively than if they try to represent themselves or negotiate the complex claims process on their own.

Auto recall lawyers fight for rights of victims

Over the past few years, auto manufacturers have become more and more concerned about notifying car owners of potential flaws in their vehicles and the solutions available to fix them. Toyota, for instance, has hired outside companies to track down owners of cars whose airbags could explode. The companies have explicit directions to make contact with such car owners in order to stress the seriousness of the situation. In addition to the required first class letter, other companies also employ phone or e-mail to relay messages about defects in their vehicles.

The Los Angeles wrongful death attorneys at Ellis Law are encouraged to see auto manufacturers stepping up to the plate when it comes to informing their customers of risks. Taking a lesson from the deadly ignition switch deaths that resulted from G.M. addressing this problem ineffectively, major auto producers (including Toyota, Honda, and Chrysler, as well as G.M. itself) have been taking steps to identify and fix problems sooner.

As auto makers address the issue, however, victims of accidents involving recalled cars need experienced attorneys on their side more than ever to fight for just compensation in court.
