Ways to Exercise Goodwill in LA This Holiday Season

All of us here at Ellis Injury Law believe in giving back to our beloved community, especially around the holidays. And especially this year when things are so tough for so many. This holiday season, our attorneys have donated to LA Trial Lawyers’ Charities, which benefits more than 100 nonprofits serving our local community. Here are some of the best ways you can give back to your Los Angeles neighbors in need:

Join the Los Angeles Toys for Tots drive.

Demand was so high from families in need this year, the local chapter of Toys for Tots had to cut off requests back in November. You can donate a toy in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps to make a difference. Last year, LA County North distributed 125,204 toys to 60,000 children.

Adopt a child’s letter to Santa.

The USPS has operated Operation Santa since 1912, allowing postal workers and members of the community the opportunity to respond to a child’s letter to St. Nick with a wrapped package. You have until December 19 to send your anonymous gift.

Support Meals on Wheels.

This local food delivery service provides more than nourishment for the body. They also deliver smiles, wellness checks, handmade cards, and care packages lovingly assembled by local benefactors. Learn more about the Neighbor to Neighbor program or contact Meals on Wheels West in Santa Monica for delivery driver and other volunteer opportunities.

Help a homeless woman.

On-site volunteering and certain itemized donations are suspended due to COVID-19, but the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles still needs financial donations, supermarket gift cards, clean home kits, and snack packs. Just $25 can provide a woman with a week of housing, food, health care, and counseling services.

Alleviate a child’s feelings of abandonment.

Much of the vital fundraising and in-person support for the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Los Angeles (CASA) has been suspended. However, they still need general toiletries, sporting equipment, activities gift certificates, comic books, hoodies, MP3 players, laptops, heaters, art supplies, and other Amazon Wishlist items. Your gift goes to vulnerable children ages 0-12 living in poverty.

Help close the education gap.

The Joseph Learning Lab needs monetary donations and tutors for children who are at risk of falling behind in their studies. As a volunteer, you can assist kids in their coursework during 90-minute online sessions and help reduce the dropout rate.

You can also find your cause through Nonprofit L.A. Works, which connects volunteers with opportunities based on interest, skill set, and comfort level.
