Recent Spate of Motorcycle Accidents Illustrate Dangers Facing LA Bikers

Dangers Facing LA Bikers - Los Angeles Motorcycle Accident LawyersMotorcyclist accident-related fatalities in Southern California have risen dramatically over the past few years, and one look at recent media headlines confirms the dangers facing bikers today. Just two weeks ago, a 59-year old La Palma resident was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a center median on Bloomfield Avenue. As reported by Los Cerritos News, the California man apparently lost control of his bike before careening off the roadway while driving southbound in moderate traffic. The accident occurred around 3:15 pm, and according to authorities at the Cerritos Sheriff’s Department, there were no other motor vehicles involved in the wreck.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and it is unknown if the motorcyclist’s untimely death will be attributed to defective road design or vehicle parts, or some other underlying cause.

During the confusing and traumatic aftermath of a wrongful death or serious personal injury sustained in a motor vehicle crash, it’s crucial to enlist the assistance of motorcycle accident lawyers in Los Angeles who understand complex liability issues. At Ellis Law, our team of legal professionals advocate for the rights of injured motorcyclists, and the families of those who have died, helping them achieve justice and full compensation for all lost income, reduced earnings, medical costs, pain, suffering and rehabilitation.

Los Angeles motorcycle accidents on the rise

In a separate tragic incident reported by the LA Times, a Huntington Beach woman was arrested for suspected drunk driving that killed a 29-year-old motorcyclist from Carson. The victim was Robert Lavender III, who was pronounced dead at the accident scene – at the intersection of West Walnut Avenue and South Lemon Street.

According to reports, 39-year-old Deanna Marie Soto was driving while impaired at 2 am, when she made a fatal left turn at the intersection in her Nissan Sentra. Lavender’s Harley Davidson clipped the rear right corner of Soto’s car, after she made the turn. Soto suffered only minor injuries and was later booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving and put into Orange County Central Jail, where bail was set at $100,000.

Motorcycle and car accidents caused by drunk drivers in the Los Angeles area have also spiked in the past decade. Fortunately, victims of drunk driving can take their grievances to court, pursuing both civil and criminal charges in some cases. Recently, a claim arising from a wrong-way crash caused by a drunk motorist on California’s Interstate 10 resulted in a $6 million settlement for the plaintiffs.
