NTSB Report Released on Fatal Port of LA Helicopter Crash

port of LA fatal helicopter crashThe NTSB has released a preliminary report investigating the cause of a fatal crash that killed a pilot and a photographer earlier this month. The helicopter, a Robinson R22, went down at the Port of Los Angeles on January 4. The majority of the wreckage had been recovered except the outboard section of the main rotor blade.

The Robinson company has come under scrutiny in recent years by several regulatory authorities for a number of crashes, many of which were fatal. Several lawsuits have been brought against the company over fatal crashes questioning airworthiness and other mechanical defects as possible factors contributing to accidents. The Robinson Company has responded by blaming pilot error for fatal crashes, not design defects.  The  NTSB investigation is ongoing.
