High Speed Chase Ends In Seven-Car Collision

cars on freewayA high-speed multiple car collision in Sherman Oaks made headlines over the last week. Only minor injuries were reported and a toddler involved in the accident was unhurt. Even so, it can take weeks or months for a seemingly minor trauma to escalate into a debilitating injury.

If you have been involved in a similar type of car accident, experienced attorneys at the Ellis Law Firm in Los Angeles specialize in helping innocent victims recover compensation for injuries and emotional stress they have suffered.

Stolen car leads to high speed pursuit in Sherman Oaks

The Sherman Oaks incident began with reports of a stolen vehicle on Friday, September 25 at approximately 9:45 p.m. in North Hollywood. Police pursued the suspect north on Sepulveda Boulevard at about 100 miles per hour. The 30-minute chase ended when the suspect sped through the Sepulveda and Magnolia intersection and was struck by a silver sedan that clipped the passenger side of the vehicle, spinning the car out of control.

The suspect took out a line of cars stopped at a traffic light on the opposite side of the road. The stolen vehicle was reportedly “creating sparks before finally swerving across Sepulveda Boulevard about 100 yards and crashing into a wall.”

A female suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Destiny Dispaquale, emerged from the stolen car’s passenger side door, holding a child who appeared to be under five years of age. She was immediately taken into custody, along with the male driver, 24-year-old Jacob Ross. Meanwhile, firefighters spent 20 minutes extricating a woman in a red SUV, which was the first vehicle struck in the row of stopped cars. Another child sustained minor injuries from the second vehicle in the line. One person was treated at a nearby hospital and released.

Some car accident injuries appear later

Initial wounds like lacerations, bruises, broken bones and concussions are readily apparent, but some types of car accident injuries may take longer to manifest. Whiplash symptoms typically show up within 24 hours and appear mild at first, but may develop into more serious pain in the coming weeks and months if body alignment is off. Many people find they have trouble sitting or standing for long periods of time, lifting objects, or complain of a stiff neck that never goes away.

Physical therapy for car accident trauma can be expensive, so it’s a good idea to consult with a car accident attorney to see if you might have a claim.
