Fiery Multi Vehicle Truck Crash on 5 Freeway in Los Angeles: 1 Dead, 10 Injured

multi vehicle truck crash Los Angeles 5 FreewayA big rig appears to be to blame in this crash involving at least eight other vehicles on the 5 Freeway Tuesday.  According to reports, the truck lost control and broke through the center divider into oncoming traffic.  The collision cause a massive explosion and fire, with debris scattered across most of the freeway lanes.  75 firefighters from several agencies arrived at the scene of the crash just north of the Colorado off ramp in Los Angeles.  At least eight vehicles were involved which from early reports included three commercial trucks, thee passenger cars, one passenger van and a black truck.  The truck that crossed the center divider hit a second big rig which started the collision chain reaction.

One individual was pronounced dead at the scene.  LAFD said that a total of 11 patients were treated at the scene with one victim in critical condition.  The victim killed was a male adult; a dog was also found dead among the debris.  Both sides of the freeway were shut down for nearly 8 hours to facilitate clean up of hazardous materials and removal of incinerated wreckage.  Further investigations are pending as the sequence of events that caused the crash has not been established.
