Cypress Park Vehicle Crash Injures 7 People

firefighter with car accident victim

Seven people were injured in a car crash in northern Cypress Park last Friday, reports the Los Angeles Fire Department. The accident involved two passenger vehicles which collided at the intersection on Division Street, close to San Fernando Road. Authorities think the force of the collision pushed a white sedan off the road and onto the sidewalk, where it struck and injured two pedestrians.

Aerial footage of the accident scene taken by KTLA showed a white Toyota sedan with severe damage on its right side and a red-colored Honda SUV. The two vehicles crashed at approximately 2:30 p.m. on the outskirts of L.A.’s Glassell Park and Cypress Park neighborhoods.

According to officials at the LA Fire Department, emergency responders treated the seven injured on the scene before transporting them to local hospitals. At this time, four of the injured are in stable condition and three are reported to be in fair condition.  The exact nature of their injuries has not been disclosed.

The cause of the two-vehicle accident is currently being investigated.

Los Angeles traffic fatalities on the rise

For years, Los Angeles has been considered one of the nation’s most dangerous cities for pedestrians, who account for almost 50 percent of fatalities in vehicle collisions, according to a recent city analysis. In 2016, more than 55,300 accidents were reported in L.A., marking a 20 percent increase from two years prior. These accidents claimed the lives of 260 people, outpacing traffic deaths in most other large cities. LAPD data shows the majority of these traffic incidents involved hit-and-run accidents, pedestrian knock-downs, drunk and distracted driving.

Car accident liability issues

To date, no citations have been issued in the Cypress Park collision. Investigators will be examining a number of factors to determine which party, if any, is at fault. If circumstantial and forensic evidence shows that drugs, alcohol, excessive speed or distraction played a role in the collision, the injured victims may be eligible to file a personal injury claim against the negligent driver.

To have a strong claim for compensation, it must be proven that the at-fault party was reckless or negligent and that his or her actions directly or indirectly caused the accident and related injuries.

A successful car accident claim can seek money damages for hospital and ER costs, future medical care needs, pain, emotional suffering, lost wages, and other losses.
