Motorist Killed by Toppled Tree in Freak Accident Fallbrook

An 80 foot tall oak tree fell across the rain slick road at the 2200 block of Willow Glen Road in Fallbrook, killing an 84 year old driver in a 2007 Toyota Sienna minivan. Further investigations by arborists to be performed to determine the cause of the tree fall. Current reports say it’s unclear whether the rain was a contributing factor. California Highway Patrol reports suggest that the shallow root system may have been weakened by recent rains in the area.
Maintenance crews were able to remove the tree with chainsaws and clear the narrow roadway after several hours. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no additional passengers in the minivan.
