Two men were injured early Wednesday morning by falling metal at a construction site in West Sacramento.

According to West Sacramento Police, two sub contractors with PG&E were installing pipe for the city near Jefferson Boulevard and 15th Street. Steel supports were in the ditch to stabilize the sides. When a crane was lifting the supports out, a chain reportedly snapped.

Police say the workers’ injuries are considered critical, with one having head trauma and the other with leg trauma.

Both were taken to the hospital.
