Joel Giovanni Andalon, a 27-year old man, was charged on July 6th for a hit-and-run car accident back in June in which he killed a pregnant woman’s unborn child.

As reported by the Santa Ana police department, Andalon was speeding down First Street at about 9:46am. Because of his speed, he crashed into a car that was turning left onto Lacy Street, injuring both the pregnant woman and two others.

Andalon got out of his car and fled from the scene immediately after the crash, leaving the pregnant woman, who was his friend and was in his car at the time of the crash, alone with her injuries. The woman was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery, but the doctors were unable to save her baby. There is no official word on the other two victims.

The search for the negligent party

Santa Ana Police were able to obtain a video of the crash in which they identified a van driving past. In the hopes that the van diver might have new information on the accident, the police released the video to the public so that the van driver could be identified and interviewed.

Police also created two tip lines, 714-245-8208 and 714-245-8200, on which they asked any other witnesses to come forward.

Andalon was arrested, booked, and held without bail in an Orange County Jail this past Thursday.

He was charged with a felony count of hit-and-run with a permanent and serious injury as well as a misdemeanor driving on a suspended license.

What about the woman?

While it’s gratifying that the responsible party is behind bars, the woman who lost her child is left with her devastating loss and most likely mountains of medical bills.
