Head-On Crash with Big Rig Kills Five People

Five people were killed in an accident with a big rig truck on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021.
According to California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Shasta Tollefson, the pickup truck carrying all five victims was driving northbound on Interstate 5. At around 9:00 p.m., the pickup crossed from the northbound lanes into the southbound lanes near Firebaugh and collided head-on with a big rig truck carrying cardboard. Both the pickup and the big rig caught fire because of the crash, causing damage to the road.
Part of the southbound lanes of 1-5 was closed for several hours, with traffic rerouted via a 33-mile detour so authorities could investigate the crash and investigate the damage done to the road.
