Harrison Ford Rescues L.A. Car Crash Victim

Harrison Ford was poised to play a real-life hero Sunday morning, when the driver of a vehicle in front of him lost control of her car and veered off the highway in Santa Paula, California. The car accident took place north of Los Angeles on California State Route 125, report authorities. The actor, best known for his iconic roles in the popular ‘Star Wars,’ and ‘Indiana Jones’ films, watched the driver lose control of her car before slamming into an embankment and sliding off the road. Police say that Ford immediately pulled over his own vehicle to help the woman.

Senior police officer Matt Alonzo told media that the actor – who was accompanied by a friend– came to the driver’s rescue, acting as good Samaritans. Ford then helped pull the woman from her vehicle, and stayed on the scene until authorities and paramedics arrived. According to ABC News, the woman – whose identity was not released – was then transported to the local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
Ford no stranger to emergency rescues
The award-winning actor, who is now 75-years old, has a storied history of helping others in dire emergency situations. In 2000, Harrison Ford took to the skies in his personal helicopter to help find and rescue a stranded hiker in Idaho Falls. The following year, in 2001, Ford piloted his helicopter once again to rescue a teenaged Boy Scout who had been missing for more than 18 hours in the forest near Yellowstone National Park. The Star Wars actor, who is a veteran pilot of 20 years and licensed to fly both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, has been lauded for his public heroism on numerous occasions.
Despite having logged over 5,000 hours in the air, Ford was involved in a dicey incident this past February as he was landing his single-engine plane at Orange County’s John Wayne airport. According to the FAA, which later investigated the actor, Ford landed on taxiway, violating FAA safety rules, and flew over a Boeing 737 that was just short of the runway.
