Morning traffic was stalled today when a distracted driver rear ended another vehicle causing a backup far into downtown Redding, according to California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred before 8 am on the westbound 44 near Auditorium Drive.  Reports say that the driver of a black Ford Explorer was reaching for a drink and rear-ended a silver GMC SUV during rush hour traffic.  No one was injured in the crash, although both vehicles sustained  damage.  A third car was also involved.  California Department of Transportation workers were called in to remove debris from the area; tow trucks were necessary to remove the vehicles.
