Motorcycle crash is the subject of ongoing investigation

To date, few details are known about this deadly crash. Police officers have said that the white Toyota was making a left-hand turn to exit the parking lot of a nearby business at the time that the car was struck. The car was turning into a westbound lane when the eastbound motorcycle struck the driver side door. The motorcyclist and the driver of the Toyota Scion were both killed. The unidentified, injured woman was a passenger in the car.

The most recent updates about the deadly collision have identified the deceased motorcyclist as 22-year-old Erick Medin Del Rio of Baldwin Park. Oscar Pena of Ontario was the driver of the Scion. He was 38 years old.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is urged to contact the Irwindale Police Department Detective Bureau.

Potential liability issues in motor vehicle accidents

Motorcycle accidents and car crashes can involve complex issues. After a crash, it’s important to hire a lawyer to serve as an effective advocate. Personal injury lawyers sort through the evidence to determine the parties that may be held liable if a lawsuit is filed.

Often, these accidents involve drivers who were impaired by alcohol or drugs. Even if criminal charges are pending, the victims or their families can still file a civil lawsuit. The burden of proof in civil lawsuits is lower compared to criminal courts and lawsuits are not bound by the outcome of criminal trials. In cases in which the negligent driver did not survive the crash, it may be possible to sue the decedent’s estate. Other possible defendants in a car crash lawsuit may include the manufacturer of the motor vehicle or the municipality responsible for defective roadway designs.
