Casino Roof Collapse in Gardena Injures 11

Around 10 a.m. on Monday, July 15, a roof collapse at Larry Flynt’s Lucky Lady casino on West Rosecrans Ave. in Gardena injured eleven people. Most suffered minor injuries, though at least one victim was more seriously hurt. According to the county fire department, seven people were transported to local hospitals. Pictures from the scene showed debris scattered across gaming tables, and a water leak was also reported.
At the moment, the cause of the roof collapse is unclear. The L.A. County Fire Department is investigating the structure to determine what went wrong and to assess the building’s fitness for occupancy.
Property owners have a responsibility to maintain public safety
Businesses like casinos make a lot of money in and around Los Angeles, and they have a duty to provide a reasonably safe space for their visitors and gamers. Unfortunately, not every business lives up to that responsibility. Sometimes routine maintenance is skipped in order to save money or time. Other times, poor management or simple neglect is to blame for putting innocent people at risk of structural failures and other unsafe conditions.
