Boyle Heights Car Accident Kills 1, Injures 3

A spate of holiday-related traffic accidents in Los Angeles has continued into this week with another deadly collision, this time in Boyle Heights. According to the LAPD, one man was killed and three people suffered critical injuries on the evening of January 6, when a speeding motorist traveling southbound on North Mission Road made a fateful left turn that cost him his life.
The man apparently turned directly in front of another vehicle, which had been heading north on the same road. The impact of the collision sent the second car careening across the road. When emergency responders arrived, paramedics found a male driver who had been partially ejected from his car, after it slid and hit a telephone pole. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, though police are withholding his identity until family members are notified.
North Mission Road accident kills one
The fatal crash took place around 10 p.m. in the vicinity of North Mission Road and East Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, say the Los Angeles Fire Department. Authorities who responded to the accident reported three other victims who sustained serious injuries. All were transported to the hospital, were their conditions were listed as critical. An update on their health status has not been made available to the press.
Though it appears that the deceased was driving too fast for conditions at the time of the accident, detectives say they are investigating underlying causes, and have yet to rule out if drug impairment or drunk driving were factors.
This marks the second deadly accident in Boyle Heights in the past month. On December 13, Sister Raquel Diaz of the Church of Assumption was killed in a hit-and-run accident. The 70-year-old nun was attempting to use the crosswalk between North Evergreen Avenue and Winter Street when an unidentified driver mowed her down. The LAPD is still searching for leads to that pedestrian knock-down, and are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the suspect’s arrest and conviction.
Right now, the only identifying data officials have about the suspect’s car is that it’s a white compact vehicle and was traveling south on Evergreen Ave. at the time of the incident.
