Four people were killed in a head-on collision in the early hours of Sunday, December 17, on the 210 Freeway in Lake View Terrace. The driver of one vehicle, a Chevrolet Impala, was going the wrong way and struck the other vehicle, a Toyota Corolla.

Three Dead at Scene; One Died at Hospital

The crash occurred shortly before 2 a.m. The driver, a 30-year-old male Chatsworth resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant of the Chevrolet.

The struck Toyota had two passengers, a woman 30 years of age and one 50 years of age. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 60-year-old woman, was taken to a nearby hospital, but died there of injuries sustained in the crash. All three women lived in Baldwin Park.

The California Highway Patrol was notified of a car going the wrong way on Foothill Boulevard, as that section of the 210 Freeway is called, about 5 minutes before a crash was reported. They were unable to make it to the scene before the crash occurred.

The accident closed lanes on the 210 for roughly 5 hours. The freeway was reopened around 7 a.m. Sunday morning.

Authorities are still investigating the crash, and have asked anyone with information concerning it to call them.

Police are still investigating whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the collision.

Car Accident Law in Southern California

While it is premature to speculate on the causes of a crash such as this, certain facts about car accidents in California should be known by the public.

If another party is at fault for a car accident, whether because they are impaired by substances like drugs or alcohol, fail to obey rules of the road, or drive erratically or recklessly, a claim may be brought for negligence.

Personal injury claims can compensate victims for injuries, physical therapy, medical bills, loss of wages, and other factors pertaining to any injury. Wrongful death claims can compensate those close to the deceased as defined by law for pain and suffering, funeral expenses, loss of consortium, and other losses, such as loss of financial support, depending on the relationship and the nature of the loss.
