Three people, two of them teenagers, were killed and two others critically injured after their car crashed into a guardrail on the southbound 110 Freeway at the 105 Freeway on November 23. The collision happened in the Vermont Vista area.

Two 17-year old female passengers in the 2009 gray Nissan Altima, who were not wearing seat belts, were ejected from the vehicle. One of them was later pronounced dead at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, while the other was hospitalized in serious condition. A 19-year old female passenger, who was wearing her seat belt, died at the scene, as did the 17-year old male driver. A 19-year old male passenger, who was not buckled in, was also hospitalized in serious condition.

The accident occurred under heavy fog conditions. The driver of the car veered into the attenuator barrels, barriers designed to prevent vehicles from crossing to the wrong side of the freeway. According to witnesses, the car was traveling about 70 miles per hour when it hit this guardrail.

That is according to a preliminary investigation report by California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer K. Martinez. The crash occurred around midnight, and CHP officers were alerted shortly thereafter.

The victims were all from Los Angeles. The driver was later identified as Luis Daniel Quinonez, although the names of the victims were not released. The CHP continues its investigation into the cause of the accident.
