2 Killed in Boyle Heights 60 Freeway Rollover Crash

Ashley Rodriguez of Los Angeles and Bryan Ponce of Highland Park, both 18 years old, were killed on November 20 after ejection from a Honda Accord. The vehile rolled over on the 60 Freeway at the spot in Boyle Heights where it turns into the 10 Freeway. According to information released by the Los Angeles Fire Department, the accident occurred in the westbound lanes at approximately 8:13 p.m., west of Soto Street, at the East Los Angeles interchange.

The Accord was heading northbound on the Santa Ana Freeway when it veered off the road, flew up the embankment south of the freeway, and then rolled over. Ponce, the driver, and Rodriguez, a front-seat passenger, were thrown from the car into the No. 1 lane of the Santa Monica Freeway. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel pronounced both teens dead at the scene.

Another passenger, a teenager in the Honda’s back seat, was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The cause of the rollover crash was still being investigated by authorities.
