14 California Hospitals Fined Nearly $1 Million for Safety Issues

The California Department of Public Health issued penalties to 14 hospitals in January.  Investigations had discovered various issues that have either caused, or were likely to cause serious harm or death to patients.

The department assessed penalties where breaches of mandated hospital policies or procedures had resulted in patient harm.    More than half the fines were charged to facilities in Los Angeles County.  The various infractions cited were numerous; from failing to prevent patient deaths to causing serious injury during surgery.

The list of hospitals include Anaheim Regional Medical Center, College Hospital, Garfield Medical Center, Keck Hospital, Los Angeles Community Hospital, Marian Regional Medical Center, Pacifica Hospital of the Valley, Scripps Mercy Hospital, South Coast Global Medical Center, Southern California Hospital at Hollywood, St. Joseph Hospital, St. Mary Medical Center, Tri-City Medical Center, Valley Presbyterian Hospital.
